The wisest of the Seven Sage said "Naught in excess," but you, Gessius, were not convinced of it, and came to this end. Though erudite, you incurred the reproach of the greatest lack of reason in desiring to ascend to heaven. Thus it was that Pegasus was fatal to Bellerophon, because he wished to learn the rules of motion in the stars. But he had a horse and the confident strenght of youth, whereas Gessius could not screw his courage up enough even to ease himself.
