ἀτρέμα τὸν τύμβον παραμείβετε, μὴ τὸν ἐν ὕπνῳ
πικρὸν ἐγείρητε σφῆκ᾽ ἀναπαυόμενον.
ἄρτι γὰρ Ἱππώνακτος ὁ καὶ τοκεῶνε βαΰξας
ἄρτι κεκοίμηται θυμὸς ἐν ἡσυχίῃ.ἀλλὰ προμηθήσασθε: τὰ γὰρ πεπυρωμένα κείνου

Passez doucement le long de ce tertre, de peur d'éveiller la guêpe mauvaise qui repose dans le sommeil. Il vient en effet, le coeur d'Hipponax, qui aboyait des paroles mordantes, il vient de s'endormir en paix. Mais prenez garde : ses mots de feu savent blesser même chez Hadès.
