τὸν χαρίεντ᾽ Ἀλκμᾶνα, τὸν ὑμνητῆρ᾽ ὑμεναίων
κύκνον, τὸν Μουσῶν ἄξια μελψάμενον,
τύμβος ἔχει, Σπάρτας μεγάλαν χάριν, †εἰθ᾽ ὅ γε λοῖσθος
ἄχθος ἀπορρίψας οἴχεται εἰς Ἀίδαν.

Le gracieux Alcman, le cygne chanteur des hyménées,
dont les accents furent dignes des Muses, est dans ce tombeau,
grande faveur pour Sparte, où le poète, ayant rejeté le fardeau
enroulé autour de son corps, s'en est allé dans l'Hadès.
